Lancer, best tank class in any MMORPG?
I am not a role player or a lore junkie etc but class “fantasy”
is very important to me since it allows me to immerse in the game world. This “fantasy”
element is the main reason why I play RPGs compare to any other genre. My class
fantasy has always been of the tank who can stand head to toe with the mob and
take pounding and return some too. Of all the MMORPG or even CRPG I have
played, Tera’s Lancer is the only class which allowed me to “role play” this
fantasy element.
To be more specific, it’s the block mechanic where you hold
the shield up to block and then bash the mob! I love everything about this,
from the animation, sound effects, the amount of damage it block and the amount
of damage the counter does etc. Other games may have similar mechanics but the
block is never potent but in Tera, its very powerful and useful. There is some
skill required to use it as well. You have to learn how and when to block based
on the monsters etc. In many games, tanks are expected to dodge, roll (?!) or
move away from some nasty attacks and every time I do this, I am saying to
myself, I am fecking tank and who is supposed to stand between the big bad and
my allies yet you expect me to run away? Tera’s block mechanics means I don’t
have to do this for lot of attacks and makes it feel like tank I imagined in my
head!
Only thing I would change about the Lancer is the Lance with a sword
